SYLVAN PARK : Exploring Nashville's Neighborhoods
Southwest of downtown, confined by Richland Creek, Charlotte Ave and the railroad tracks, you’ll find Sylvan Park. This neighborhood exudes cool, calm, and collected—a great “get to know your neighbor” feel. Like many Nashville neighborhoods, this area of town has a growing restaurant scene, a sweet little shopping boutique, and ways to support an athleisure lifestyle. You’ll find a variety of homeowners in the area from families to empty nesters and young professionals all encompassed in a laid-back, residential setting.
The members of this community are very proud of the area they reside in. You’ll find they actively support the businesses and in turn, the businesses support the community. McCabe Pub has been a mainstay in Sylvan Park since 1982 and their bacon burger has been named Best Bacon Cheeseburger in Town. Bobbie’s Dairy Dip is a local favorite and down the road, you’ll find Star Bagel, which is the oldest locally owned bagel and bakery in Nashville. ML Rose and Farm Burger also offer you delicious options and great dining experiences. If you’re considering joining the Sylvan Park neighborhood, we have to let you in on a local’s secret. While you’ll want to check out all of the options of fun eateries here, you may want to explore some home cooking as well. Why? The Produce Place is a favorite among neighborhood residents for their locally sourced produce, convenient to-go options and selection of dairy, meats and breads. They’ve been in business for thirty years, so you can rest assured it’s the best of the best!
On the edge of Charlotte Avenue, you can hit up some of the city’s best shopping and see one of Nashville’s top art galleries, LeQuire Gallery. Elle Gray is one of the only boutiques in Sylvan Park neighborhood that offers fashionable and many popular brands at an affordable price. Maybe you don’t need groceries, art, or clothes, but a little furry friend to take home. Love at First Sight, near Neighbor’s, opened in 1995 as a way to raise awareness about pet adoption and now is a fully functioning adoption center.
One of the biggest attractions to Sylvan Park is its access to an active lifestyle. Residents here take advantage of several community venues in the area—the McCabe Community Center, McCabe Golf Course, Climb Nashville, and Richland Park just to name a few. The McCabe Center has a full-service fitness center, exercise classes, gymnasium, game room, after-school youth program, sports programs, art exhibits and an outdoor playground. It is designed to cater to young and old while instilling a sense of community.
Much of the infrastructure was built in the 1950’s, however you will see clapboard homes from the 20’s, stone bungalows from the 30’s, Victorian and older Tudor style homes, along with modern condominiums all nestled together on the streets of Sylvan Park. It is evident there is history in these parts from the architecture and with the cherry blossoms that line the streets. The community members are enjoying what the growth means for its district but committed to preserving their abundance of history and green space.
Sylvan Park is eatable, shop-able, walkable and most of all enjoyable! It’s quaint and quiet, offering its residents a wide variety of businesses to engage with and extremely desirable location being so close to Music Row, Belmont, Vanderbilt, and downtown.
